The 4PP420.1043-K54 is an operator panel produced by B & R Automation for the 4PP Power Panels series. It merges HMI functions with an embedded controller, allowing equipment builders to mount one unit on a cabinet door and run local sequence logic, recipe handling, and diagnostics. The panel’s purpose in industrial automation is to present process data, accept touch input, and exchange signals with drives or remote I/O through onboard fieldbus and Ethernet resources while maintaining a sealed front surface for washdown areas.
The visualization section is built around a 10.4 in active-matrix screen that renders at 640 x 480 px. A palette of 262,144 colors is available, and the image is formed on a TFT Color display lit by an LED backlight for long service life. Commands are entered through an Analog Resistive touch layer, which registers finger or stylus contact even if operators wear gloves. The aluminum front carries a rating of IP65, so dust and low-pressure water jets cannot penetrate the mounted face. One APCI expansion slot and a Type I CompactFlash socket provide field-upgrade options and recipe storage, while a single Ethernet port, two USB ports, and an RS232 interface handle network and peripheral connectivity without external gateways.
Control tasks are executed by a 500 MHz clock running on the AMD Geode LX800 processor, and real-time data resides in 128 MB of SDRAM. The firmware image is held in 2 MB of flash, so updates can be loaded without replacing media. A dedicated APCI slot allows specialty modules such as high-speed counters, and the CompactFlash card can capture machine logs for preventive maintenance. Combined with the Ethernet channel, these hardware resources let the panel perform small PLC duties, forward data to supervisory systems, and support rapid recipe downloads during product changeovers.
