B & R Automation integrates visualization and control in the 4PP420.1043-K12 operator panel, a unit from the 4PP Power Panels series. The device combines an embedded controller with an HMI so a machine builder can run application code and present process data on one compact front end. Within an automation cell, it typically mounts on the cabinet door and links to drives, I/O, and higher-level networks, allowing local recipe handling and direct operator input.

The front side carries a 10.4 in diagonal screen that uses a Color TFT matrix and renders at VGA resolution. This combination determines how much information and graphic clarity the display can present on operating screens. A resistive touch layer lets operators issue commands even with gloved fingers, as indicated by the Resistive touch technology. Supply power comes from a single 24 VDC source, which matches common control-cabinet bus bars and simplifies field wiring. The aluminum front is sealed to IP65, so water jets and airborne oil mist will not reach the electronics. One CompactFlash Type I slot stores the application, while an APCI expansion slot accepts a specialized interface board when additional fieldbus connections are required. Two USB ports transfer recipes or service logs, and a 10/100-base Ethernet controller handles programming or networked PLC tasks.

Internal memory resources support these functions. The panel boots its OS from a CompactFlash card but retains variable data in 128 MB of SDRAM and nonvolatile settings in 512 kB of SRAM. An integrated Ethernet PHY rated at 10/100 Mb/s moves OPC UA or proprietary protocol traffic, while the separate RS232 channel provides point-to-point links to drives or barcode readers without consuming an Ethernet node. These resources allow the Power Panel to execute logic, log production totals, and serve diagnostic webpages without an external PC.
