The 4PP420.1043-85 is a Power Panel manufactured by B & R Automation in the 4PP Power Panels series. The unit combines an industrial touch display with an embedded controller, allowing machine builders to host visualization, motion commands, and local I/O handling in a single compact device. Within an automated process cell, it provides the operator interface for recipe changes, status monitoring, and diagnostic acknowledgment.
The electronics are built around a Geode LX800 processor that operates at 500 MHz. This clock frequency supports logic execution and screen updates. Working memory of 128 MB SDRAM supports the real-time operating system, while application code and parameters are retained in 2 MB of Flash, preventing loss after power removal. For auxiliary data, the panel includes 512 kB of battery-backed SRAM and two APCI expansion slots that accept fieldbus or motion cards. When supplied from 24 V DC, it draws 0.71 A, translating to a thermal load of 17 W. The cast-aluminum bezel carries a gasketed front that meets IP65 / NEMA 250 Type 4X, permitting installation on enclosures exposed to dust, oil mist, or cleaning fluid spray.
The operator views process states on a 10.4 in TFT that renders graphics at 640 × 480 px. A palette of 262,144 colors, 450 cd/m² brightness, and 900:1 contrast keep text legible under factory lighting. Screen endurance is specified for 70,000 h, so scheduled replacement is seldom needed during the life of typical machinery. Commands are entered through a resistive sensor stack; this analog, resistive touch technology registers presses with gloved fingers and tolerates surface contamination. These display features allow the panel to handle local visualization without a separate monitor, leaving more enclosure space for drives and terminal blocks.
