The 4PP420.0571 operator panel is manufactured by B & R Automation for the 4PP Power Panels series. Integrating visualization, soft-PLC control, and field connectivity in one housing, it functions as the local command station on compact machines and production cells. A 5.7 inch analog resistive touchscreen delivers responsive input while maintaining the durability required for washdown fronts in food or packaging lines. By merging human-machine interface and computing resources, the unit reduces cabinet space and simplifies panel wiring in decentralized automation architectures. Its integrated format also suits installations where local control and operator interaction need to stay close to the machine process.
The computing core is a Geode LX800 500 MHz processor that executes 32-bit x86 code, giving the panel adequate throughput for deterministic motion sequences and data logging. Volatile storage consists of 64 MB DDRAM, while operating system images and application files reside in a 2 MB firmware flash device. Recipe tables or counters remain intact because the controller carries 512 KB of battery-buffered SRAM. A front bezel rated IP65 / NEMA 250 type 4X blocks sprayed water and dust when the panel is cabinet mounted. Electronics draw from a 24 VDC ±25% supply, and a Type I CompactFlash slot provides removable storage for application distribution. Battery buffering also helps preserve retained data through short power interruptions.
An Intel 82551ER Ethernet PHY manages switched links at 10/100 Mbps, enabling data exchange with PLCs or SCADA hosts. The QVGA screen renders graphics at a native 320 × 240 pixels, providing a clear layout for machine status and operator commands. Legacy devices connect through an RS232 port that streams diagnostics at up to 115 kBaud. Two downstream connectors accept peripherals through the dual-mode USB 1.1 / USB 2.0 ports, and an Elo 12-bit touch controller maintains accurate coordinate capture even when operators wear gloves. This mix of network, serial, and USB connections supports communication with both current automation hardware and older peripheral devices.
