B & R Automation manufactures the 4PP420-1048-K08 operator panel as part of the 4PP Power Panels series. The device combines machine-level control and visualization in a single housing, allowing it to run user programs while presenting process data on its built-in screen. Mounted on the front of an enclosure, it serves as a compact human-machine interface that simplifies wiring and shortens response times in automated assembly cells, material-handling systems, and other industrial installations.
The front face carries a 10.4 in display that renders graphics at VGA resolution on a Color TFT panel, so operators can view detailed alarms and parameter pages without external monitors. Touch input is registered through a resistive layer that responds to gloved hands or stylus points, making it suitable for production floors. A molded bezel seals the display to an IP65 rating on the front side, protecting the electronics from dust and water jets when the cabinet door is cleaned. These visual and input elements form the primary interface through which the controller’s runtime application guides setup, jogging, or recipe changes.
Behind the panel, 128 MB of SDRAM supports code execution, while an additional 512 kB of battery-backed SRAM stores retentive data such as counters or user settings. The logic section is powered from a single 24 VDC supply and can link to plant networks through a 10/100 Ethernet port for SCADA connectivity. Two USB ports accommodate service keys or barcode scanners, and an RS232 channel offers legacy serial integration. A Type I CompactFlash slot holds application files, and two APCI expansion slots accept optional I/O or fieldbus modules when extra axes or sensors are added. This arrangement supports local control tasks and leaves room for optional communication or I/O expansion in compact machine cabinets.
