B&R Automation manufactures the 4PP281.1043-B5 as part of the 4PP Power Panels series. The unit combines an operator panel with an integrated controller, allowing direct execution of visualization and control tasks on the machine. By housing processing, memory, and field expansion behind the display, it reduces cabinet space and wiring while giving operators a single access point for diagnostics in industrial automation cells.

The front-mounted TFT offers a 10.4 in (264 mm) viewing area at a native resolution of 640 × 480 pixels, so legacy VGA graphics created in the automation software appear at their intended scale. Operators interact through an analog resistive touchscreen that accepts gloved input, and the backlight reaches 350 cd/m² for clear viewing under factory lighting. A die-cast bezel with IP65 / NEMA 250 Type 4X protection seals the display against dust, oil, and washdown spray. The panel measures 323 × 358 × 108 mm, allowing flush mounting in standard 300 mm deep enclosures. Two USB 1.1 ports connect barcode scanners or memory sticks, while a Type I CompactFlash slot provides removable recipe storage. For modular expansion, the rear chassis accepts two APCI slots that can hold I/O or fieldbus cards without external gateways.

Computing tasks are handled by a National Semiconductor Geode SC2200 running at 266 MHz, and this x86-compatible CPU executes compact control code and the visualization runtime without additional cooling hardware. The system carries 64 MB SDRAM for dynamic program data, along with 2 MB of flash memory for the operating kernel and 256 KB of battery-backed SRAM to retain machine parameters during power loss. Networking to PLCs, drives, or SCADA hosts is available through a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet port. Field wiring is supplied by a regulated 24 VDC ±25% source, so the panel can share the same low-voltage rail as sensors and relays in the control cabinet.
