B&R Automation's 4PP251.1505-B5 belongs to the 4PP Power Panels series of integrated operator terminals. The unit combines a TFT touchscreen, a low-power x86 CPU, and onboard I/O to serve as both a human-machine interface and a compact controller in distributed automation cells. By embedding visualization, motion coordination, and field communication in a single enclosure, it reduces cabinet space and wiring for machine tools, packaging lines, and material-handling stations.
At the heart of the panel is a Geode SC2200 266 MHz processor whose embedded core executes visualization tasks and deterministic control loops without a fan. The system carries 64 MB of DRAM, providing runtime storage for the operating system, application code, and graphic objects. A graphics buffer drives the display at a 1024 × 768 native resolution, while a luminance of 330 cd/m² keeps images readable on brightly lit factory floors. Networking is handled through an integrated controller that negotiates 10/100 Mbps Ethernet for programming, SCADA traffic, and peer-to-peer exchange. To sustain the real-time clock when power is removed, the panel uses a field-replaceable lithium cell rated at 950 mAh.
These computing and communication resources are complemented by a 15 in touchscreen supported by a backplane that accepts 24 V field power. The logic board draws its control voltage from a 24 VDC source and exposes two APCI expansion slots for additional digital or analog channels. Two front-mounted USB 1.1 receptacles simplify data logging and updates, while a serial interface operates at up to 115 kBaud for legacy devices. Non-volatile flash of 2 MB, 256 KB of SRAM, and 16 KB of L1 cache maintain critical data between cycles, and a dedicated video buffer preserves CPU bandwidth for the real-time tasks described earlier.
