Application code and boot data reside in 2 MB of firmware flash memory, and two APCI expansion slots permit the addition of fieldbus or motion cards when specialized I/O is needed. A single CompactFlash socket provides removable storage for recipe files or firmware updates. Communication with external equipment is handled through 2 USB ports and a 9-pin D-Sub serial connector, ensuring support for both modern and legacy peripherals.
