The 4PP220.0571-85 operator panel is produced by B&R Automation and is part of the 4PP Power Panels series. This unit combines a compact monochrome LCD display with an integrated touch layer and local processing capability to serve as a front end for machine control systems. Within an automation cell, it provides visualization, menu navigation, and parameter entry while linking field devices to the controller through built-in ports. As a sealed low-power assembly, it is intended for mounting in control cabinets or on equipment housings where space is limited and an external PC is not desirable.
The panel’s viewing area measures 5.7 in diagonally, and its LCD renders at 320 × 240 pixels, which is suitable for status icons, trend plots, and text-based menus. A luminance level of 140 cd/m², together with a contrast ratio of 25:1, keeps the monochrome image legible in typical plant lighting. The screen is driven through an analog resistive touch layer that delivers 84% optical transmission and responds to finger or stylus input. Electrical supply is rated at 24 VDC ±25%, allowing the terminal to share the same low-voltage rail that feeds sensors and valves while keeping power requirements modest. For controller integration, a rear connector provides RS-232 signaling so that parameter data can be exchanged with a controller or another compatible device.
Expansion is available through 2 APCI slots, permitting additional I/O or specialized communication cards without enlarging the enclosure. The serial link supports transfer rates up to 115 kBaud, enabling faster data exchange than lower default console speeds. Two USB ports follow the USB 1.1 protocol and can source a combined 500 mA for mice, flash drives, or service adapters. The panel’s energy demand is capped at 17 W, which helps limit heat buildup and supports operation from a shared 24 V supply.
