The 4PP065.IF10-1 is a plug-in communication card manufactured by B&R Automation for the 4PP Power Panels series. It converts the panel’s backplane signals into an external serial link, allowing the operator interface to exchange data with drives, sensors, or legacy PLCs in an automation cell. By adding this card, a PP65 terminal gains an additional serial port without extra DIN-rail hardware. The module is part of an expandable HMI product line widely used in conveyors, packaging, and assembly stations.

Electrical parameters define the communication capability. The port follows the RS232 standard and is presented on a 9-pin male D-sub connector, ensuring compatibility with widely available serial cables. An internal FIFO stores 16 bytes each direction, so burst data can be buffered without processor wait states. Throughput peaks at 115.2 kbit/s, which covers standard diagnostic and programming baud rates, and reliable operation over the specified link distance is maintained up to 15 m when the line runs at 19.2 kbit/s. A 16C550 compatible UART handles framing and error detection, and the dedicated RTS and CTS hardware handshake lines coordinate data flow to prevent overruns. A front-edge LED indicates active data transfer.

This module occupies the dedicated PP65 slot, so no additional wiring harnesses are required. To secure it, the retaining screws should be tightened to no more than 0.6 Nm, avoiding damage to the panel frame. The electronics are protected to IP20 and include an internal protective circuit that shields against short-term transients, yet the serial lines share the system ground because PLC-IF1 isolation is not provided. The card adds no networking function beyond the point-to-point link, so it is not intended for multidrop communication. With a mass of only 49 g, it adds very little mechanical load to the HMI assembly.
