The 4PP015.E420-01 operator panel is produced by B&R Automation within the 4PP Power Panels series. Designed as a compact human-machine interface with embedded control capability, it combines a text display, a membrane keypad, and onboard input/output in a single enclosure. The device is intended for production lines, packaging machines, and other installations that benefit from decentralized intelligence, allowing local parameter entry, message display, and direct signal processing without a separate rack-mounted PLC. This arrangement lets the panel handle nearby machine functions at the point of use and helps reduce reliance on additional external control hardware for basic local tasks.
It runs on a nominal supply of 24 VDC and draws no more than 6 W, so heat generation and power-supply loading remain low. There are 16 digital inputs that accept 24 V signal levels for reading sensors or pushbuttons, while data can be exchanged over the CAN network at up to 500 kbit/s. For point-to-point links, an RS232 channel supports 115.2 kbit/s. The panel’s memory includes system flash, user flash, and battery-buffered SRAM, allowing it to host sequence control, alarm lists, and communication drivers without external storage. This local memory allocation supports application data retention and routine operating functions directly inside the panel.
The front foil houses 26 tactile keys for direct command entry, and the monochrome LCD presents status text in a 4 × 20 characters format. Character sets cover English and extended European glyphs for multilingual prompts, which supports clear text-based interaction across different machine markets. Sixteen digital outputs are available, and they are high-side sourcing drivers rated for loads up to 0.5 A each, enabling direct operation of relays, lamps, or pneumatic valves. A sealed front panel with a protection class of IP65 shields the electronics against dust and low-pressure water jets, allowing installation on machine doors. The LCD is a black-and-white type, providing a simple display option where operators mainly need readable text feedback rather than touch control.
