B&R Automation's 4PP015.0420-01 is a compact operator panel in the 4PP Power Panels series. The unit integrates an HMI display, digital I/O, and a PLC-grade processor, allowing it to execute machine sequences while presenting status data locally. In an automated cell, the panel can replace a separate controller and touchscreen, simplifying wiring by combining control logic, fieldbus interfaces, and keypad-driven text output inside a single sealed housing.

The controller side is powered from 24 VDC, and at full load it draws a maximum of 6 W maximum, so cabinet thermal rise remains low. Program execution is paced by an 0.8 µs instruction cycle, which lets the panel handle high-speed interlocks on its 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs without noticeable delay. Text is shown on a 4 x 20-character LCD, and the front foil has IP65 front protection that resists dust and water jets even while the keys are being operated. For data links, the RS-232 port supports up to 115.2 kbit/s, and the CAN interface handles high-speed fieldbus communication, allowing the panel to be installed far from drives or remote I/O islands. Application code is stored in a 448 kB FlashPROM area, so stored programs remain available after power is removed.

Retentive resources are substantial for a small panel, with 1024 kB FlashPROM allocated for user programs and 300 kB SRAM used for variables that are updated during runtime. Output drivers can source up to 0.5 A, enabling direct actuation of indicator lamps or miniature relays without extra amplifiers. The integrated CAN segment remains stable across distances to 1000 m, which supports distributed layouts in larger machines. A width of 153 mm, a height of 120 mm, and a depth of 46.1 mm allow the unit to mount in shallow door cutouts while keeping the sealed faceplate flush with the machine surface.
