The EL6720 is a lightbus master terminal that connects lightbus devices to a lightbus circuit. Its performance is similar to the Beckhoff FC2001 lightbus PCI card. When used in the EtherCAT Terminal network, it enables integration of any Lightbus slaves. There is no limit as to how many EL6720 devices can be used in such a network. This Beckhoff master terminal has two distinctive features. Status LEDs that identify the progress of the system and Fieldbus connection. The EL6720 features a robust protocol implementation that comes with numerous features.

EL6720’s unique features include fast cycle times which can reach up to 100 µs, the ability to process data communication synchronously, and a high-performance parameter and diagnostics interface. The EL6720 features one Fieldbus channel, 2.5 mbaud data transfer rates, supply voltage via the E-bus for electronics, and TwinCAT system manager for configuration. It has IP20 class protection which requires it to be mounted in a terminal box that meets the IP 54 protection category. Some approvals include CE, ATEX, and cULus approvals. This makes it ideal for use in any factory across the globe.

The EL6720 master terminal measures 26mm x 100mm x 52mm (W x H x D) and weighs approx. 70 g. The permissible conditions include an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range of -25 to 85 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity should be maintained at 95% and free from condensation. Its bus interface uses two standard fiber optic connectors which enable high transfer rates and low susceptibility to interference. The EL6720 features numerous I/0 modules such as Bus Terminals, Bus coupler, and Fieldbus boxes, among others.
