Product Description

The EL6688 is a PTP external synchronization interface from Beckhoff Automation that operates as an EtherCAT terminal. The interface features one Ethernet port, an Ethernet IEEE 802.3 bus system and a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface. The unit features status LEDs in three colors of red, green and yellow for hardware diagnosis. It receives its power supply through an E-bus. The interface operates in a temperature range of 0°C to 55°C, and needs to be stored in a temperature range between -25 and +85 degrees Celsius. It has a watchdog feature for safety purposes and turns off the interface after a specified time, for example, when the process data traffic is interrupted.

The synchronization interface is equipped with an IEEE 1588 master or slave clock that is synchronized depending on the protocol precision. The device is integrated with distribution clocks and features 500V Ethernet/E-bus electrical isolation. It can be used in TwinCAT as a reference clock. If the yellow LED is on, it indicates data transmission with 100Mbit/s transfer rates. When the LED is off, the data transmission takes place at 10Mbit/s. The interface must be fixed on to the assembly surface using a 35mm mounting rail. All cables must be removed before demounting the unit.

The E-bus has a current consumption rating of 310mA. The interface has IP20 class protection. It can be installed in any orientation, either horizontally or vertically. If the Err LED lights up in red, it indicates that the EtherCAT is at fault. The synchronization interface is UL Listed and CE Certified. The device has a vibration/shock resistance that conforms to EN 60068-2-6/EN 60068-2-27 specifications.  The unit can be operated in an environment with a relative humidity of 95% without condensation.
