Product Description:
The EL2808-0000 is an eight-channel digital output terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It occupies one slot in an EtherCAT I/O strand and provides discrete control points for actuators such as relays or solenoid valves in distributed automation panels. By translating PLC output data onto the EtherCAT backplane, the unit enables deterministic 24 V field switching without standalone wiring islands. This arrangement helps keep distributed machine I/O compact and organized within a single networked terminal row.
The terminal drives loads at a rated voltage of 24 V DC, and each channel can source up to 0.5 A per channel, allowing direct connection of light inductive devices without interposing relays. A total of 8 outputs are available, so one housing can control multiple machine elements while conserving DIN-rail space. Internal power contacts are sized for 10 A, which helps prevent shared supply paths from becoming a bottleneck when adjacent terminals draw current from the same trunk. The housing carries a protection rating of IP20; therefore, it must be installed inside a cabinet but does not require additional sealing against accidental finger contact or small tools.
Field wiring uses a 2-wire connection scheme, which keeps installation simple, and the enclosure measures 12 mm × 100 mm × 68 mm, so lateral expansion of an I/O row is minimal. The module snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and its process image contributes 8 output bits to the controller, matching the physical channel count without padding. Operating orientation is variable, which helps when cabinet space is limited, and the electronics draw their logic voltage directly through the power contacts to reduce external jumpers. The polycarbonate body withstands typical panel temperatures, and reverse-polarity protection helps prevent damage during wiring errors. Ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads are supported, allowing mixed actuators on the same terminal group without requiring separate output modules for different load types.
