Over time, Beckhoff embedded PCs have taken control over the world of industrial applications. Beckhoff embedded computers build on the heavy presence of personal computers on the industrial floor. These computers are designed to help save on system costs and add the ability to handle complex automation tasks. Apart from performance, embedded computers manufactured by Beckhoff are lightweight enabling them to be comfortably mounted on a DIN rail. Embedded computers in the Beckhoff CX5000 family, for instance, weigh approximately 575 grams making them DIN-rail mountable.

The CX5020-1112 is a Beckhoff embedded PC belonging to the CX5020 series. Embedded PCs in this series support interfacing with Input Output devices through EtherCAT terminals and bus terminals. Note, using EtherCAT terminals opens the possibility to interface with a range of other extension options. To interface the CX5020-1112 with external device, it features two Gigabit Ethernet ports and four high-speed USB interfaces. When used with the TwinCAT automation software, the CX5000 series of embedded PCs can be converted into a powerful motion control and programmable logic controller that can be driven without or with visualization.

For the embedded PC to operate as required, it has to remain in an environment with relative humidity ranging between 5 percent and 95 percent without condensation. Apart from humidity, the CX5020-1112 has to be operated in an industrial environment with a surrounding temperature between -25 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius, and stored in a temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. These wide operating temperature range enables the CX5020-1112 to be used in climatically demanding situations. The CX5020-1112 features TwinCAT 2 NC PTP and TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime control software and a Windows Embedded CE 6 operating system.
