Advanced Troubleshooting for Kollmorgen AKD Drives - 6 More Common Errors and Fixes
Continuing from our last blog on common Kollmorgen AKD errors, this article goes more into other fault messages and their fixes, to help you keep smooth work. AKD servo drives are strong and dependable, but sometimes errors can stop work if not fixed fast. At Wake Industrial, we are experts in giving solutions and fix services so your machines work at best. Our team is here to help you; no matter if you need help to solve complex problems or to find good parts.
Read below to know more about AKD fault messages, why they happen, and easy fixes to keep your systems working well.
- Over Speed Fault (F302)
This fault happen when the motor go faster than the speed limit you set in the VL.THRESH parameter. This can cause problem to mechanical part and might break the system.
Solution: To fix this problem, you can try to make the VL.THRESH value bigger or slow down the motor's speed so it's safe. Checking and changing speed parameters often will stop this fault from coming back.
- Over Voltage Fault (F303)
When the voltage in drive's DC bus go over it's max value, this fault will happen. This happen often when you slow down too quickly or some external power issue affect the power supply, and this is really bad.
Solution: You can use right regenerative braking method or use external braking resistors, they will get rid of extra energy and stop over voltage problem. Also, make sure you have good, steady power supply for best drive performance.
- Under Voltage Fault (F304)
This fault shows up when the drive's DC bus voltage drop too low from the minimum voltage it need, and this happen because power supply problem or sudden load changes. So, it's important to keep the supply good!
Solution: Check the power supply is good and big enough for the drive. Making sure power supply is steady and not changing the load suddenly will help stop this under voltage fault.
- Over Current Fault (F305)
When the motor current goes above the drive's limit, it's called over current fault, this can happen because of short circuits, very heavy load, or if the motor accelerates too fast. These issues need to be checked properly.
Solution: You need to check the motor and wiring, look for short circuits or damage in wire protection. Also, you should adjust the acceleration and load to keep current in safe level.
- Feedback Error (F401)
This error show up when there's a problem with the feedback device. Like bad wiring, wrong feedback type or signal loss. This cause motor not working right. So, the feedback must work properly.
Solution: You need to check if the feedback device is setup correctly and can work with the drive. check connection for wear and tear. If something is broken, replace it. Make sure signal work good.
- Drive Over Temperature Fault (F506)
This fault will show when the drive get too hot inside, it's because of not enough cooling or the room is very hot. So, you need to focus on proper cooling method.
Solution: Improve the air flow around the drive. Make sure nothing is blocking air, you can also use extra fans. Regular maintenance of cooling system will stop overheating and make your drive last longer.
- Motor Over Temperature Fault (F507)
This fault trigger when the motor sensor show that the motor is getting too hot and this can damage the motor. So, this issue also need to be handled carefully.
Solution: You should reduce the load on the motor or how much it's running to lower heat. using heat sinks or forced air cooling can help to keep motor safe.
