The SC323A-032 is a command controller from Pacific Scientific’s SC320 Command Controllers series. It functions as a combined power stage and motion processor that drives brushless servo motors in automated machinery, supplying regulated current to the motor windings while executing position or velocity commands received from upstream logic. Within an industrial cell, the unit bridges low-level motor requirements and higher-level PLC instructions, allowing precise servo-axis control without a separate amplifier module.
The power section accepts 115/230 VAC through a single- or three-phase input connection at industrial mains frequencies. The controller tolerates supply frequency variations across 47–63 Hz, allowing operation with common industrial power systems. The drive can sustain a continuous motor current of 7.5 A, which is the thermal limit for steady-state operation. Transient events such as acceleration are handled by a peak current capacity of 15 A. Resolver feedback is supported, allowing the controller to track rotor position accurately even at low speeds. Parity checking is disabled to reduce serial communication latency.
Control data enter the unit through a multilink port that supports RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 signaling. The default line speed is 9600 baud, providing adequate throughput for parameter updates and command communication. High-speed machine cycles are supported by a maximum step input frequency of 400 kHz, while the encoder channel can process frequencies up to 750 kHz to preserve feedback accuracy at elevated shaft speeds. Direction setup and hold intervals are each 380 ns, providing short timing windows for closely spaced commands. The step generator accepts negative pulses as short as 1.0 µs and positive pulses as short as 1.25 µs, allowing it to respond to external motion planners with different pulse formats.
