The SC323A-001 command controller is manufactured by Pacific Scientific as part of the SC320 Command Controllers series. It is a panel-mounted control module that conditions reference signals and monitors feedback for servo amplifiers on assembly machines, packaging lines, and similar equipment. By processing resolver position data and issuing scaled torque or velocity demands, the unit provides deterministic axis control with minimal external hardware.
In continuous operation, the controller delivers a command current of 7.5 A, matching servo drives that must hold load torque without overheating. Its analog current loop is scaled at 3.50 A/V, so each volt from the internal DAC adds proportional actuator force and simplifies gain settings. The built-in encoder emulation outputs 1024 ppr square-wave signals, allowing incremental drives to operate with resolver-equipped motors. The power section accepts 120/240 VAC single-phase or three-phase supplies, which suits both low-power and medium-power cabinets. For short bursts, the module issues up to 15 A peak command to provide additional headroom during acceleration.
Bidirectional energy flow is supported through four-quadrant operation, so the controller can command braking currents and return regenerative power to the supply when axes decelerate. Motion can be commanded in torque or velocity mode, allowing the control loop to match force-regulated or speed-regulated applications. Resolver feedback is interpreted by a tracking circuit with ±22 arcmin accuracy and converted by a 12-bit RDC, which keeps electrical angle errors low enough for smooth servo commutation across the speed range.
