Product Description:
The SC322A-001-01 is a single-axis motion command controller produced by Pacific Scientific within the SC320 Command Controllers series. Designed to interpret host serial messages, scale feedback, and generate reference signals, the module forms the control core of small positioning stages, pick-and-place heads, and indexing tables. By integrating sequencing, interpolation, and basic I/O handling, it relieves the primary PLC of time-critical loop tasks and ensures repeatable motion profiles in industrial automation cells.
The controller samples process variables with a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter that is fully monotonic, allowing fine reference tracking over the ±10 V capture range. Its analog output can source or sink up to ±12.5 V, mapped through a 1.75 A/V current loop scale so downstream drives receive consistent torque commands. Transient torque demands are met because the device can request up to 7.5 A of peak motor current while maintaining 3.8 A continuously. Closed-loop position calculations refresh every 1.36 ms, and this value coexists with a faster internal velocity update so mechanical resonance is not excited. Program loading and diagnostic access travel through the multi-protocol RS-232/RS-485/422 port, and each transaction uses a 10-bit data word for framing integrity.
The inner velocity integrator executes every 340 µs, supplying intermediate setpoints to the position scheduler and improving low-speed smoothness. Feedback devices are accepted at frequencies up to 750 kHz, while commanded step-and-direction streams can reach 400 kHz, ensuring compatibility with high-resolution encoders and stepper translators. When the controller operates on 120 or 240 VAC mains, the optically isolated serial port defaults to 9600 baud, though higher rates can be selected if line conditions permit. A 100 kΩ command input impedance minimizes loading on upstream analog sources, and a 380 ns direction setup window keeps step outputs coherent during rapid reversal.
