Product Description

The Pacific Scientific Motor Drives in the 5000 Series are designed to work using smart motion system drivers. This produces the most beneficial performance with reliability and accessible software control. These stepper motor drives have the configuration of the available power supply that has a peak 7.1 Amps current, with the integral power supply of 65 Volts DC, 5 Amps RMS and user-provided the power of 18 to 75 Volts DC.

The 5430 series driver package operates on 120 volts AC mains and gives the required functions to transform step and directional inputs into the compatible motor winding currents required to driving a 2-phase bipolar stepper-motor with the general phase-wise output of 5 amps with the 65-volt DC bus. Since the motor winding needs to be compatible with the output characteristics of the driver package, the 5430 is essentially created to be used with the Pacific Scientifics’ Sigma range of hybrid stepper motors and works flawlessly with the standard Sigma series of Sigmax and another similar high-performance line as well as stepping motors.

The 5430 design consists of two main components or blocks - the power supply and the driver unit. This macro stepper motor driver utilizes PWM (pulse width modulation) to control the motor electronically and acts bipolar chopper utilizing the winding currents with a chopping frequency of 20 KHz. The 5430 driver has special electronics to eliminate any mid-range frequency that is generated as a consequence of mechanical, electronic or magnetic characteristic of the stepping motor. The circuit controls this from happening by modifying the output behavior using electronic switching mechanism to advance or delay it, based upon the characteristics of the incoming pulse train.
