Internal Product Review

The VACIIB D22-B is an Okuma VAC spindle drive with an analog interface and a control PCB plus power unit construction. Dedicated XB-EPG(CN13) encoder and XB-RES(CN3) resolver connections support clean feedback integration for machine repair and retrofit work. The interface layout feels well considered for service use, making the analog interface a strong fit for established spindle control platforms.

Product Description:

The VACIIB D22-B spindle drive module is produced by Okuma within the VAC Spindle Drives series. Designed for machine-tool spindles, it converts controller commands into regulated motor currents so cutters maintain constant surface speed and finish quality on metal, plastic, or composite parts. By housing control logic and power conversion in one assembly, the module simplifies cabinet layouts in automated production cells and reduces the number of separate components required for spindle control.

An analog interface on the front edge carries continuous command and monitoring signals between the numerical control and the drive. Rotor position feedback passes through a shielded MRP-20F01 connector, which mates with the dedicated XB-EPG(CN13) encoder jack and routes differential A, B, and Z channels. When an optical pulse generator is used, its cable terminates in the circular RM15WTP-8S connector, and the internal fiber link emerges at the XB-OPT(CNOFS) bay. These connections provide separate paths for closing the speed loop without relying on the main copper harness. This arrangement helps reduce noise coupling in high-frequency spindle environments, where switching activity can interfere with low-level feedback signals.

General machine signals enter through the 50-pin MRP-50F01 system plug, which uses MRPF102 crimp contacts. Both components connect through the XB-EX(CN1) I/O header, allowing wiring looms to be installed without soldered terminations. For applications that use resolver feedback, the stator transmitter connects at XB-RES(CN3), allowing the control software to select either sine-cosine or incremental feedback. The physical assembly combines a control printed circuit board with a power unit in the same chassis. This arrangement keeps the logic board thermally separated from the switching devices while shortening internal bus connections. The concentrated layout also keeps signal wiring organized within a single drive bay and limits the distance between the control circuitry and power stage.
