Product Description:

The VACII D8-A spindle drive is produced by Okuma within the VAC Spindle Drives series. It supplies regulated three-phase power to high-speed machine-tool spindles and exchanges operating status and speed commands with the CNC controller to coordinate cutting operations. As a dedicated inverter module, the unit converts the incoming AC supply into controlled motor output. Its interface circuitry supports resolver feedback, overload detection, and remote enable signals used in automated machining systems.

Incoming power is accepted within a range of 170 to 250 VAC, and the drive operates at 50/60 Hz on standard industrial power systems. The supply line passes through a no-fuse circuit breaker, which isolates the cabinet during an overcurrent event. Six cartridge fuses provide branch protection, with F1 through F4 rated at 5 A and F5 through F6 rated at 0.5 A. A rear-mounted cooling fan draws air across the heat sink to remove heat from the power components. The 200 VAC fan motor connects through an M4 cable terminal. Incoming power and motor conductors terminate on screw connections, allowing secure wiring without specialized terminal hardware. Command processing is handled by VAC Board II and VAC Card 1, which provide connections for resolver feedback and overload monitoring.

The inverter uses six insulated-gate transistor modules to switch DC-bus power into three controlled output phases. The rectifier section contains one diode module that converts the incoming AC supply for the DC bus. Control wiring is concentrated on a 50-pin header, providing a compact connection for enable, alarm, and analog velocity signals exchanged with the CNC. Signal and power circuits are segregated to reduce electrical noise in the gate-drive and feedback paths. The output conductors terminate on M5 screw terminals that provide stable connections for the motor leads. Separate 20-pin headers accommodate encoder and pulse-generator feedback, keeping these signals apart from resolver wiring. The semiconductor packages are positioned near the rear fan exhaust path to control junction temperatures during extended operating cycles.
