The VACII D22-A spindle drive amplifier is produced by Okuma as part of the VAC Spindle Drives series. It conditions three-phase power and regulates current to a machine-tool spindle motor, translating speed commands from the CNC into precise torque output for metal-cutting, grinding, or boring processes. Through dedicated feedback and I/O channels, the unit links motion control logic with the high-power inverter stage so that spindle acceleration, deceleration, and orientation follow programmed cycles. Its enclosure mounts inside the electrical cabinet adjacent to the main power distribution bus.
The power section accepts incoming lines at the R, S, and T terminals, a conventional designation for three-phase supplies that allows the drive to connect without relabeling plant wiring. Command information is exchanged over an analog interface, enabling proportional voltage or current references from the CNC to regulate spindle speed. General-purpose control signals enter through the XB-EX(CN1) connector. Its mating housing is the MRP-50F01 plug, while individual contacts use the MRPF102 spring-crimp format to maintain conductivity under vibration. This connector group supports start, stop, alarm reset, and external interlock circuits that supplement the analog command line.
Position and velocity feedback are managed on separate connectors to segregate signal paths. The incremental encoder cable mates with the XB-EPG(CN13) connector when the corresponding MRP-20F01 plug is fitted, providing differential channels for A, B, and Z pulses. For applications that use fiber-optic links, spindle orientation data can be routed through the XB-OPT(CNOFS) port, reducing electromagnetic interference inside crowded cabinets. Resolver feedback uses the shielded XB-RES(CN3) interface, allowing absolute angle detection during low-speed machining or spindle-positioning routines. Separating the encoder, optical, and resolver connections also reduces the likelihood of routing feedback cables near high-current conductors.
