The VAC1-D30-A is a spindle drive unit produced by Okuma. It belongs to the VAC Spindle Drives series and governs the speed and torque of high-frequency spindle motors in automated machining centers. By converting motion commands from the numerical control into precise current and voltage patterns, the drive closes the control loop between the CNC controller and the electromechanical spindle, supporting stable cutting and a consistent surface finish in industrial automation.
The control section exchanges velocity references through an Analog interface, so external circuitry can deliver continuous ±10 V commands without additional conversion. A 16-bit Microprocessor executes commutation, fault detection, and parameter calculation in real time, while an RS422 serial channel permits remote diagnostics and data exchange. Physical wiring is divided between the signal cable on connector CN1, the serial link on connector CN2, and the motor sensor lines on connector CN3, which keeps the connections organized. Rotor speed is tracked by a Resolver, giving absolute angle information even during power-up. The front panel shows operating state through 3 dedicated LEDs, so run, stop, or alarm conditions can be identified without external tools. A separate loss indicator LED warns of communication faults between the drive and the CNC when it is illuminated.
A CPU alarm lamp lights in Red if the internal processor detects overflow, watchdog, or memory errors, whereas the drive-ready lamp glows in Green once all interlocks clear after power-on. Position loop integrity is verified with a Pulse Generator channel that echoes spindle rotation back to the numerical control and complements the resolver-based speed loop. Two selectable status channels provide 2 reporting modes, so the host controller can switch between compact and detailed fault codes depending on cycle requirements. The visual indicators and status outputs present alarm and operating information at both the drive and controller interface.
