The VAC-D11 spindle drive module is built by Okuma for its VAC Spindle Drives series. Designed for machine-tool spindles, the unit converts DC bus energy from the CNC power cabinet into a controlled three-phase output so that high-speed motors can accelerate, brake, and maintain a steady speed under numerical control. By regulating current and voltage vectors, the drive enables precise cutting, drilling, or grinding cycles while protecting the spindle motor from overload and excessive regenerative energy.
The drive’s mounting frame is sized for cabinet integration. The body height reaches 433 mm, while the overall height increases to 450 mm once the base and top plates are included. A front projection of 96.5 mm keeps door clearance modest and allows stacking with other amplifiers. The flange has four mounting holes across its 310 mm width. The horizontal span between hole centers is 200 mm, and the vertical span is 414 mm. Each hole is tapped to M8, supporting standard metric screws for secure mounting. With an overall depth of 254.1 mm and an overall width of 310 mm, the module fits common 600 mm deep enclosures without obstructing airflow.
The electrical characteristics support two common mains voltages used in Asian industrial systems. When connected to a 200 V supply, the maximum motor-side inductance is 480 µH, providing smoother current transitions during rapid torque commands. On a 220 V circuit, the maximum motor-side inductance decreases to 230 µH, matching the higher fundamental voltage and maintaining comparable current-change limits. The drive offers a high-speed rated output of 15/11 kW, enabling aggressive cutting on large workpieces. A separate low-speed output of 11/7.5 kW supports processes that require increased torque at reduced rotational speeds. The heat sink channel supports forced-air cooling without requiring external ducts, allowing generated heat to be removed from the power electronics during sustained spindle operation.
