The DBR8 accessory is manufactured by Okuma for the VAC Spindle Drives series. It functions as a dedicated wiring interface that links the spindle inverter, brake circuits, and low-voltage logic in an Okuma machining center. The accessory organizes these electrical connections within the control cabinet while keeping power, braking, and logic conductors routed through their intended interfaces. Its clearly identified connection points can simplify installation and help maintain an orderly cabinet layout in industrial automation systems that rely on rapid spindle acceleration and deceleration.
The main power stage connects to the axis terminal block designated XT1 (U, V, W), which provides terminals for the three spindle motor output phases. A control-side terminal block accepts signal conductors from the machine control box, keeping logic wiring separate from high-current paths. Auxiliary drive electronics receive control power through a 24 V feed, which requires a stable low-voltage supply to maintain interlock and status functions. A dedicated connector marked DC carries the common bus potential between the accessory and the spindle amplifier’s internal DC link. This connection provides a direct path for the electrical energy handled during spindle braking. Separating the motor phases, control signals, and DC-bus connection also reduces the likelihood of incorrect routing inside the cabinet.
Mechanical braking hardware connects through a keyed port marked DBR, while the complementary machine-side cable uses the mating designation BRB. These different connector designations help prevent the brake harness from being connected to an unrelated interface. Okuma specifies one unit per installation, so the accessory does not require parallel modules for its intended arrangement. The DBR8 is electrically compatible with the MIV06-1 inverter model and the MIV08-1 inverter model. Correct routing through the keyed brake connections supports coordinated brake engagement during rapid spindle deceleration. The dedicated wiring paths also allow the inverter, brake circuit, and machine control system to exchange the required power and control signals without combining low-voltage logic wiring with motor output conductors.
