The OSP7000M is a CNC operator display and control unit produced by Okuma within the OSP CNC Monitors series. It serves as the human-machine interface for milling and turning centers, presenting coordinates, alarms, and program data while accepting manual jog commands and data input. By combining screen output with dedicated keys and switches, the unit provides direct access to machine functions and supports precise positioning during setup. Its controls also allow machining programs to be reviewed, entered, and executed from the operator panel. This arrangement gives users a centralized interface for monitoring machine status and responding to operating conditions without moving between separate control devices.
Axis motion is handled along the X, Y, and Z directions, and each coordinate may be programmed up to ±99999.999 mm. Metric resolution reaches 1 µm, while inch resolution is 0.0001 inch. Feed rates can be overridden up to 200% of the programmed value for temporary process adjustments, and a jog wheel provides 256 selectable feed increments for controlled movement toward the workpiece. Ten rapid-traverse velocity steps allow faster positioning after the required clearance has been confirmed. A single dwell cycle can pause cutting for as long as 99999.99 seconds, accommodating operations such as coolant soaking or probe measurement. Up to seven main CPUs share control tasks across the system. Reference return is unnecessary because absolute encoders report the actual position when power is applied, reducing the steps needed before machine movement begins.
Three operator panel formats are available, allowing the monitor to be matched to compact lathes or larger machining centers. Each panel supports one hardware feed handle, and a built-in 3.5-inch floppy drive loads part programs or parameters directly from legacy media. Communication with upstream DNC or diagnostic systems is provided through a single RS-232-C link. Application text and alarm messages can be displayed in 13 languages without external conversion. The pulse-generator handle supplies manual motion commands through the control interface, while encoder-based reporting provides the position data needed during setup and operation.
