The OSP10M numerical control monitor is produced by Okuma for the OSP CNC Monitors series. It combines a display, membrane keys, and logic hardware to supervise metal-cutting equipment. With a built-in PLC, it links ladder sequences with part programs so that peripheral devices such as loaders or coolant pumps follow the same cycle timing as the machine axes. In automation cells, the monitor serves as the operator station that shows coordinates, alarms, and prompts while forwarding commands to the main OSP CPU.
Axis control starts with the factory-configured X, Y, and Z axes, but the hardware supports up to 6 axes through additional servo cards. Up to 4 axes can be interpolated at once, enabling simultaneous milling or turning without repositioning. Execution is handled by 7 CPU engines, using a parallel design that separates path computation, I/O, and graphics to keep cycle times predictable. Operators can choose from 13 display languages, helping maintain consistent screen layouts across different facilities. A single RS-232C channel supports DNC data transfer, and one pulse handle enables incremental jog control. The system uses an absolute position encoder, so reference-point routines and homing after each shutdown are unnecessary.
Programming precision includes a minimum inch input of 0.0001 in and a metric resolution of 1 µm, allowing tool paths to be entered accurately for tight-tolerance work. Each axis accepts values throughout a range of ±99999.999 mm, accommodating small fixtures and long-bed machines without rescaling. Manual feed can be adjusted through 256 discrete rates, while rapid traverse provides ten preset increments for setup or production operation. Eleven fixed cycles simplify drilling, tapping, and pocket routines. The ladder-based PLC can interlock these cycles with coolant, chuck, and other machine commands so auxiliary functions remain coordinated with programmed motion.
