The OSP-U10M is a numerical control monitor manufactured by Okuma for the OSP CNC Monitors series. Mounted on machining centers and lathes, this unit combines a display, key panel, and communication hardware so operators can load part programs, track active coordinates, and adjust cutting conditions in real time. It interfaces with the OSP control to supervise X-, Y-, and Z-axis motion and report system diagnostics. By providing a human-machine interface, the monitor supports consistent, repeatable production workflows across automated metal-cutting cells.
Its control hardware lets a machine builder configure as many as 6 axes, while interpolation can occur on up to 4 axes simultaneously, enabling three-dimensional contouring plus one auxiliary movement in a single block. Position commands are accepted in metric units down to a resolution of 1 µm, which permits fine surface finishes and tight tolerances. Feed override is granular because manual cutting feed is divided into 256 steps, and rapid positioning speeds can be staged through 10 steps to suit the machine configuration or operating requirements. Fixed-cycle macros, tool-length offsets, and RS-232-C data exchange are processed without slowing the control loop.
The monitor holds machining instructions locally, and its execution queue extends to 160 m of buffered blocks so complex profiles can run without pauses. Permanent program storage has a capacity of 160 m, allowing multiple part programs to remain on the unit between uploads. Geometric compensation is supported through 100 pairs of cutter-radius entries, while fixture placement can be managed through 20 pairs of work coordinate systems. A built-in encoder supplies an absolute position reference as the control processes long tool paths, setup changes, and dimensional corrections.
