The OSP-U100L is a computer numerical control monitor manufactured by Okuma as part of the OSP CNC Monitors series. It combines a visual display, keypad, and processing hardware so an operator can load part programs, adjust tool data, and issue cycle commands at the machine. In an automated production cell, the unit interprets machining instructions, converts them into axis movement signals, and returns real-time position information between the servo drives, sensors, and the user. Status screens and keyed input are handled in one enclosure, which reduces the need for separate external control panels. This arrangement lets the control serve as both the machine interface and the command source for coordinated cutting operations.
Axis capability includes 2-axis turning and 3-axis multi-processing, allowing the same controller to run either a lathe or a milling spindle with a C-axis. The control automatically distinguishes ISO and EIA word formats through its Auto ISO/EIA recognition feature, so manual code conversion is not required when programs come from different sources. Individual linear moves are programmable down to 1 µm, and the largest single travel command accepted is ±99999.999 mm. Program length is capped at 320 m of code, which allows long contouring or drilling sequences to remain stored in memory during production.
External data exchange uses a RS-232C reader/puncher link, and portable files can also be loaded from the built-in internal 3.5-inch floppy drive. The system backs up programs on tape reels up to 160 m, recorded in the fixed block layout N4,G2,X+53,... sequence, which supports older transfer methods still found on established equipment. A separate table stores cutter geometry in 32 sets of offsets, so radius compensation can be updated without editing the main program. Full-range absolute feedback restores axis positions after power loss, and the communications ports and storage media support direct program loading, archival transfer, and local file handling at the control.
