The OSP-E100M is an operator display and control unit produced by Okuma for the OSP CNC Monitors series. Integrated into a numerical control platform, it combines a screen, keypad, and interface electronics so the machine tool operator can view status information and issue commands without separate terminals. Within industrial automation, the monitor coordinates program execution, axis movement, and spindle activity, giving machining centers a single point for human-machine interaction and diagnostics.
Control logic is handled by a built-in PLC that executes ladder sequences for interlocks and auxiliary devices. Supervisory processing resides on a UCMB main board that links the display, I/O, and servo networks. The monitor can command up to 6 interpolated axes, allowing simultaneous motion on multi-axis lathes or mills. Reliable operation is supported at installation altitudes up to 1000 m, covering typical plant elevations. For applications with heavier computational loads, the architecture supports as many as 7 main CPUs, distributing path planning and graphics across parallel processors to maintain screen responsiveness during complex machining cycles.
The data structure supports 200 selectable work coordinate numbers, and an additional 20 preset coordinate sets remain available for routine setup tasks. Electronic sections draw power from a regulated 200 V supply connected to the machine’s cabinet transformer. Program identifiers are limited to 4 characters, streamlining file handling within the monitor’s flash memory file system. Spindle orientation feedback is delivered in 1° increments, providing the alignment accuracy needed for tool changes and probing routines. Part programs, parameters, and diagnostic data are stored in solid-state flash memory, eliminating mechanical drives and reducing the need for service associated with moving storage components.
