Product Description:

The OSP-7000 belongs to the OSP CNC Monitors series produced by Okuma. In a machining cell, it acts as the human-machine interface and local controller, presenting program code, status, and diagnostic data on its built-in CRT while coordinating peripheral storage devices. Operators can view alarms, edit programs, and monitor machine status from the same screen. By integrating video display, serial channels, and tape or floppy media handling in one package, the monitor simplifies interaction and streamlines data transfer between the numerical control kernel and external programming stations.

The front panel shows up to 64 x 24 alphanumeric characters, a fixed matrix selected to match the conversational OSP format. Internal processing is handled by 7 main CPUs in a multiprocessor arrangement that separates display refresh, I/O scanning, motion calculation, and background editing. Operating software and user parameters are stored in nonvolatile Flash memory, so startup does not require disk access. For direct DNC, the monitor provides an RS-232C port that uses 8 data bits with selectable parity of none, even, or odd and either one or two stop bits. A maximum cable length of 15 m is specified for that port, while an optical link can extend to 2000 m for remote keyboard or pendant placement.

An auxiliary RS-422 channel extends wiring to 1200 m where noise immunity is important between the cabinet and the factory network. Tape programs load through a reader that advances at 270 char/s, and the integrated cassette bin holds 60 m of medium, while external readers can increase capacity to 10 240 m. Programs can also be exchanged with 3.5-inch or 8-inch floppy drives, and both devices record sectors in MS-DOS format so files remain compatible with offline PCs. This allows program data to move between the control and external computers without custom file conversion.
