Product Description:

The OSP-500M-G belongs to the OSP CNC Monitors series manufactured by Okuma. This unit functions as the human-machine interface and supervisory controller for machining centers, coordinating axis, spindle, and auxiliary operations within automated production cells. By integrating display, data storage, and motion control in one assembly, it supports operators and PLCs in executing complex metal-cutting programs. It also presents machine status, alarms, and program information through a single control platform during production.

The controller stores part programs in 6 Mbytes of bubble memory configured for read/write access, so tooling revisions can be saved without external media. Its motion path is governed by a closed-loop servo structure that compares commanded and actual position during each control cycle. Position feedback is retained in absolute position format, allowing immediate axis reference after power restoration. Underlying tasks run on a multiprocessor CNC architecture, enabling the system to read, punch, and edit programs concurrently while background diagnostics continue to run. Program types are limited to three, and tape code compatibility covers legacy data import used by earlier machining systems.

Motion commands are issued as digital current command signals to brushless servomotors, giving precise torque control and fast reversal. The spindle section is driven by a VAC motor, with speed demand carried as an analog voltage signal that the inverter interprets in real time. Removable storage is available through an optional 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, and a tape reader can also be added for punched-tape backups. Up to three optional pulse-handle axes provide manual jog capability for setup, and disk-based file handling can operate alongside tape support when older programs still need to be transferred or backed up. Tape code support includes ISO and EIA, so existing job files from earlier controls remain usable on this platform.
