The OSP-5000L-G is a control-grade monitor assembly manufactured by Okuma for the OSP CNC Monitors series. This product integrates the display, operator keys, and processing electronics used on Okuma machine tools, enabling real-time visualization of axis positions, spindle data, and part-program flow within an automated cell. By housing processing boards and a pendant-mounted panel in one enclosure, the unit simplifies installation and provides the human-machine interface required for routine machining, editing, and diagnostics on the shop floor.

Program storage uses bubble memory with a capacity of 4 Mbyte. The control logic uses a multiprocessor architecture, giving separate CPUs for interpolation, I/O, and display refresh. These processors are mounted on five boards that receive power from AC 200 V. Axis positions are returned by absolute encoders on the X and Z axes, and the main spindle is monitored by a pulse generator. Part programs and system parameters remain resident in the nonvolatile memory, and new software can be loaded from a floppy disk connected through its 2 m cable. Visual data appears on the 12-inch color CRT, operator inputs arrive from the pendant panel, and a tape reader interface is built in for punched-tape transfer.

Power distribution provides four regulated rails: +5 V for logic, +12 V for analog sections, a general-purpose +24 V line, and an isolated +24 V supply that shields the board set from field faults. Serial communication is handled by an RS-232 link fixed at 4800 baud, with 7 data bits, even parity, 1 stop bit, and Xon/Xoff software flow control, so no hardware handshake lines are required. These supplies and the serial port let the OSP-5000L-G power sensors, drive lamps, and exchange programs or diagnostics with external equipment without straining its internal buses.
