The XPS-483B is a plug-in printed-circuit assembly produced by Okuma for the E4809 CNC Boards series. Installed in an OSP control rack, the board performs graphics processing that drives cursor positioning, menu rendering, and status windows on the numerical control’s operator monitor. By translating motion and diagnostic data from the main CPU into raster images, it supports human-machine interaction during part-program editing, cycle initiation, and alarm acknowledgment within automated machining centers.
Text handling relies on three selectable character modes, allowing the board to switch font density for status lines, G-code listings, or operator prompts without reallocating memory. For graphic content, the controller addresses up to four graphic screens with color support, so tool-path overlays, spindle-load bars, and PLC diagnostics can appear on separate pages that refresh independently. Frame-buffer data is mapped into the system bus through the FB0000-FCFFFF segment, which serves as the CRP address range. Its contiguous capacity of 128 KB holds bitmap and attribute tables accessed by DMA cycles, while three interface sections separate video, character, and I/O transactions to minimize contention with the motion processor.
