The E4809-045-091-E is a memory and processor board produced by Okuma within the E4809 CNC Boards series. Designed for the company’s numerical control platforms, the board hosts program logic and volatile storage so that lathes, mills, and grinders can execute motion paths and coordinate peripheral devices on the factory floor.
It is built around a Motorola 68000 microprocessor clocked at 15 MHz, a combination that defines the cycle time for part-program execution. The board offers 3 front-panel connectors that couple to keyboard, display, and I/O modules, while two bubble card slots accept non-volatile packs rated for 4/8/12/16 Mbit each. When fully populated the bubble section reaches 32 Mbits, providing storage for tool offsets and parameter sets. The dynamic store is expandable through up to three plug-in RAM cards, raising user capacity to 6 Mbytes for larger machining sequences. Two CMOS cards are already installed, and the installed memory type is CMOS, minimizing standby power. Onboard RAM is intentionally left at 0 Mbytes so the technician can match capacity to the machine’s part-program size.
Data exchange between daughter cards occurs over the local bus, which is implemented with Ribbon Cables, while the system interface mates to the control rack’s Back Plane for high-speed communication with servo drives and I/O processors. The memory map allocates dedicated MC11 and MC12 regions; the MC11 socket currently carries 512 Kbytes and the MC12 socket contains 2 Mbytes, giving deterministic access times for real-time tasks. Two additional RAM card positions remain for future expansion, and the three-card ceiling prevents address conflicts on the bus. A built-in RS-232-C serial port handles program uploads, diagnostics, and DNC streaming to external computers, completing the board’s role as the central processing and memory module in Okuma CNC systems.
