Product Description:

The E0227-702-009 is a legacy bubble memory card designed by Okuma Corporation for its OPUS 5000 CNC controllers. Although in modern devices, bubble memory cards such as the E0227-702-009 are no longer used, the E0227-702-009 is a highly valuable Okuma product that can store non-volatile memory. This device, in particular, stores boot loading information, which allows a particular CNC machine to run. Bubble memory cards utilize cylindrical magnetic domains to store data during operation. To access the stored information, serial communication protocols are typically used. Because boards such as the E0227-702-009 are no longer manufactured, the remaining products in the market today are sold for a very hefty price.

The E0227-702-009 features a large metal shield that protects the bubble memory chips and other circuit components. The metal housing effectively isolates the bubble memory chips from electromagnetic interference and provides thermal and mechanical stability. The E0227-702-009 also employs a connector edge on its left side, which interfaces with the CNC machine during operation. Similar to other bubble memory modules, the E0227-702-009 features a large number of EPROMs and ROM ICs for storing interface logic and bootloader routines. There are also a considerable amount of configuration headers and diagnostic ports on the E0227-702-009’s midsection. In most circuit boards, headers are usually used for testing memory maps or for debugging.

Because bubble memory cards such as the E0227-702-009 can store data persistently, they are suitable for storing critical system information such as firmware, parameters, and ladder logic. Since the bubble memory cards also come with a metal enclosure, they are also resistant to high amounts of mechanical shock and vibrations, making them perfect for highly volatile applications such as industrial plants and systems.

Frequently Asked Questions about E0227-702-009:

Q: What is the storage capacity of the E0227-702-009?

A: The E0227-702-009 has a storage capacity of 4 Mbit x 3.

Q: What happens when the E0227-702-009 is removed from the OPUS system?

A: When the E0227-702-009 is detached from the OPUS system, the machine might fail to boot and incur fatal system errors.

Q: What type of interface does the E0227-702-009 employ?

A: The E0227-702-009 employs a backplane connector to the system controller.

Q: What does non-volatile memory mean?

A: Bubble memory cards such as the E0227-702-009 can store non-volatile data, allowing them to maintain stored information even when power is cut off.

Q: Is it possible to reboot a corrupted CNC machine using the E0227-702-009?

A: Assuming the E0227-702-009 still contains the correct bootloader sequence and program, it is possible to reboot a corrupted CNC machine.
