The DC-S3A is a power conversion module produced by Okuma within the DC Power Supplies series. It supplies a regulated DC bus that feeds multiple servo and spindle drives, allowing coordinated motion across an entire machine tool. By rectifying the incoming three-phase mains and sharing stored energy with connected axes, the unit supports stable power distribution throughout an Okuma automation rack. This arrangement allows the supply section to centralize energy conversion instead of requiring a separate rectifier stage for each connected axis.

The integrated circuit breaker is rated at 50 A, so the supply can clear downstream short circuits without an external fuse. An input topology designed for three-phase AC improves power factor and distributes line current across three conductors, which can reduce conductor loading in the cabinet. The supply can energize up to 6 axes, matching the axis count of medium-sized machining centers, and current is distributed dynamically as each servo accelerates or regenerates. A compact BDU drive footprint lets the module mount directly beside BDU servo amplifiers, which helps keep bus cable runs short. Its height matches a drive, but the housing depth uses a 2x BL-D drive format, leaving extra volume for the DC link capacitors that smooth regeneration surges.

The layout uses the narrow version, so the board arrangement occupies less cabinet width while preserving airflow channels around heat-generating parts. An onboard external switch interface provides a remote enable line, allowing the CNC to isolate the DC bus without opening the cabinet. Diagnostic pads provide reference levels of 3.6 V / 15 V for checking gate-drive bias and logic supply operation. The upper logic section uses a CZ-270C top board that hosts the firing circuits, pre-charge timing, and status LEDs. Separating the logic section from the power base keeps low-level control functions organized away from the heavier power components.
