YSM206 is a servo motor. It is part of the YSM series from Kollmorgen. This motor series features a brushless design which improves performance and safety, and reduces maintenance requirements. Voltage rating of the motor is 115 Volts AC. This AC power is supplied by a motor controller connected to the motor. The second function of the controller is to control motor speed and shaft position. The controller does this by varying the amplitude and frequency of the AC supply. A critical component of this closed loop control system is feedback, which is provided by an encoder installed on the servo motor. Real time feedback is a critical factor control algorithms take into consideration while determining the required amount of amplitude/frequency change required in the motor controller output.
