Product Description:
The PRD-0051AMPF-Y0 is a servo amplifier built by Kollmorgen within the VRDM Servo Amplifiers series. Designed for closed-loop industrial automation, the module accepts a regulated DC supply and produces phase-aligned AC power to command synchronous servo motors. By modulating current through its output bridge, the amplifier executes velocity or torque setpoints delivered by a motion controller, allowing precise axis positioning without mechanical gearing. It mounts inside electrical cabinets and interfaces with higher-level PLCs through digital and analog communication lines. Its compact footprint supports multi-axis installations where thermal density must remain moderate.
The control section is energized by 24 VDC logic power for gate control and signal conditioning. The power stage accepts a bus voltage of 350 VDC, and the converter draws up to 9 A under rated motion duty. Internally, a three-leg inverter synthesizes a balanced sinusoidal output so that the motor windings receive three-phase excitation. Peak armature demand is supplied by an output current of 15 A, while the line-to-line amplitude reaches 230 VAC during full modulation. These electrical values determine the heat that must be removed through the heat sink and assist with drive sizing when multiple amplifiers share a common supply.
Signal and diagnostic connections are handled through a DB25 female amplifier-control connector that routes enable inputs, encoder feedback, and programmable I/O. A dedicated RS-232 port supports parameter setup with compatible PC tools. Two IEEE-1394 links provide daisy-chain communication between drives when high-speed network coordination is required. Firmware version 1.1.9a resides in flash memory and works with hardware revision F to provide the command set recognized by the microcontroller. Two front-panel LEDs display drive status, while additional FireWire activity indicators support rapid fault diagnosis without external test equipment.
