The CP303250 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen for the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. It converts a fixed-frequency three-phase supply into variable-amplitude and variable-frequency outputs that command industrial motors in packaging lines, pick-and-place systems, and other motion axes. By closing the torque and velocity loops inside the drive, it relieves the host controller of high-bandwidth current regulation and provides the actuator side of an automation cell.
At a 230 V three-phase input, the unit supports a continuous apparent power of 1.1 kVA and supplies a rated current of 3 Arms. Short overloads are handled with 6 Arms for 2 s or 9 Arms for 500 ms, so rapid indexing does not exceed thermal limits. Switching is executed at a PWM carrier frequency of 15.5 kHz, while the internal capacitors charge within 0.25 s after power is applied. Normal operation dissipates 60 W of heat that must be removed by enclosure airflow. An external braking shunt may draw up to 20 A, but the resistor connected to the bus must not fall below 20 Ω to keep energy within safe operating limits. A normally open fault relay rated for 1 A provides a hardwired status signal to the upstream safety logic.
Thermal and electrical protection thresholds are factory-set. The control board opens the power stage at 80 °C, preventing insulation degradation. Bus voltage is supervised, with the drive tripping above 430 VDC or inhibiting operation below 90 VDC. Regenerative energy is diverted automatically; the brake transistor turns on at 390 VDC and turns off at 370 VDC once the excess charge is removed. Current smoothing is reinforced by a ripple frequency of 31 kHz, limiting torque oscillation at the motor shaft.
