Product Description:
The U16M4H is a brushed DC servo motor produced by Kollmorgen for the ServoDisc Pancake DC Motors series. Its flat armature design allows a short 2.99 in axial length, so the motor fits directly into tight spaces on pick-and-place heads, indexing fixtures, or precision rotary stages. In these applications, the motor accepts controlled current from a drive and produces proportional shaft torque, providing closed-loop positioning and velocity control for automated machinery.
The motor has a continuous rated speed of 3000 rpm, where its electromagnetic and thermal limits permit sustained operation. A torque constant of 52.77 oz-in/A relates armature current to output torque, simplifying current-mode drive sizing. The low terminal resistance of 0.880 ohms allows the motor to develop its rated current with a modest voltage drop, supporting responsive acceleration. During fast transient moves, the winding can accept up to 101 A and deliver a peak torque of 5242 oz-in for short periods before reaching its thermal limits. The back EMF constant of 39.00 V/krpm helps determine the required drive bus voltage and current feedback range.
A thin rotor keeps the reflected load inertia low at 0.0840 oz-in-sec², allowing position loops to operate with high bandwidth while limiting overshoot. The magnetic circuit supports a rated mechanical output of 890 W, providing capacity for demanding servo axes that require continuous torque near 402 oz-in at 25 °C. The motor has a face diameter of 7.37 in, providing a broad mounting flange that distributes reaction forces evenly across machine plates. Its 18.7 lb mass supplies enough thermal capacity to absorb brief overloads without an excessive temperature increase. The rated voltage is 125.7 V, making the motor suitable for mid-bus servo amplifiers commonly used in motion-control panels.
