S9M4H is a high-performance ServoDisc servo motor from Kollmorgen’s S-series of fast response motors. The motor has a unique design which features Kollmorgen’s flat disc armature. This motor feature allows construction of motors with zero cogging, exceptional acceleration, and compact dimensions. The motor is ideal for applications with space restrictions, and which require low RFI and high torsional stiffness. The motor features an integrated tachometer, which is a sensor used to measure the rotational speed of the shaft in revolutions per minute (RPM). It is commonly used to monitor the speed of motors and other rotating machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent overloading. The tachometer provides feedback to the connected motor controller, which uses it to make suitable adjustments to its output for motor speed and torque control.

Controllers from the KXA Plus series can be used with the S9M4H servo motor. Options for the motor include mil-type connectors, rugged housings, fail-safe brakes, and encoders for feedback. The motor has extremely compact dimensions and weighs only 2.5 kilograms. Its length is 2.28 inches and its diameter is 4.37 inches. It provides extremely fast acceleration at 164.5 kRad/s2. Peak torque output of the servo motor is 650 N-cm. The rated speed is 3000 RPM and the maximum motor speed is 6000 RPM. Continuous torque of the motor is temperature-dependent: it is 54 N-cm at 40 degrees Celsius and 60 N-cm at 25 degrees Celsius. The motor has no cogging torque, and its stall torque (continuous) is 60 N-cm. The tachometer on the motor has a 3 Volts/KRPM output voltage, its peak ripple is 1.5%, 0.06% output voltage linearity, and 1180 Ohms minimum load resistance.
