The SERVOSTAR-S700 is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. It supplies regulated three-phase power to servomotors. The platform is suited to coordinated motion tasks where the controller must respond quickly to changing load conditions during operation. This allows automated pick-and-place units, packaging lines, and CNC axes to follow precise torque, speed, and position commands in real time.

The command interface accepts differential analog references up to ±10 V, and an input resistance of 150 kΩ prevents the source from being heavily loaded. These signals are digitized with 16-bit resolution, giving fine set-point granularity at every update. Control electronics are powered from a 24 VDC auxiliary supply, while the same voltage level is used for the step/direction inputs that allow simple pulse-train control from a motion card. The drive closes its current loop every 62.5 µs, and the speed loop runs at the same interval for tight velocity regulation on high-bandwidth mechanical systems. Digital outputs are rated for 100 mA, enabling direct actuation of relays or indicators without external drivers. An Extended Ipeak option lets the axis deliver additional short-term current without overheating the power stage.

For networked installations, an onboard EtherCAT port and a dedicated CANopen channel simplify daisy-chain wiring, and three expansion slots accommodate feedback or I/O cards when special functions are required. The open frame has an IP20 protection rating, so it must be installed inside a control cabinet. Power components are dimensioned for a maximum symmetrical fault current of 42 kA, and reinforced insulation meets overvoltage category III requirements for factory mains. Machine safety is addressed by a dual-channel STO input that removes torque-producing energy to the motor when triggered. Separate communication paths also help when the drive must exchange cyclic motion data while retaining access to simpler device-level networking. The expansion bays allow the drive to be adapted for uncommon feedback formats or additional discrete I/O needs.
