Product Description:
The SERVOSTAR-406A-P servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S400 Servo Drives series. It supplies closed-loop speed and torque regulation for brushless servomotors in automated machinery, linking motion controllers with power hardware in a compact IP20 unit. Within an industrial cell, the device converts incoming command references into regulated three-phase output, providing the fast current control needed for precise positioning and process repeatability. This arrangement lets the drive respond quickly to changing load demands while keeping axis motion stable during starts, stops, and reversals.
Command resolution on the analog channel reaches 1.25 mV, so voltage steps as small as that value can translate into motor torque changes. The same input accepts signals in the range of ±10 V, allowing direct connection with standard motion controllers. Internally, the power stage is clocked at 8 kHz, which limits current ripple while staying within typical drive switching losses. Continuous operation is rated for 6 Arms, and overloads up to 12 Arms can be delivered for rapid acceleration. That current headroom helps the drive handle short peaks in demand without an immediate drop in axis response. The permissible motor inductance spans 7.5 mH to 40 mH, enabling the drive to stabilize both low- and high-reluctance windings. Base heat generation is 15 W at idle and rises to 40 W during nominal load.
The housing carries an IP20 protection rating and communicates with higher-level PLCs through PROFIBUS DP. It maintains full performance in ambient temperatures up to 45 °C provided natural cabinet convection is available. Cabinet planning is simplified by its 50 mm width, 240 mm depth, and 267 mm height, while installation mass is only 1.7 kg. The enclosure is intended for installation inside a control cabinet rather than in exposed or washdown locations. Induced heat at the rated dissipation level must be extracted by panel airflow, yet the low quiescent figure lessens standby energy loss.
