Product Description:
The PSR4/5A-275 is a servo-class power module manufactured by Kollmorgen for the PSR Servo Power Supplies series. It converts three-phase utility power into a regulated DC link that feeds Kollmorgen drive stacks and supports the transfer of excess kinetic energy from decelerating axes. In automated cells, this function keeps connected motor controllers energized while helping stabilize the shared power system during coordinated acceleration and deceleration cycles.
The unit is designed for a nominal input of 230 VAC, which determines the line insulation requirements and influences breaker selection in the control cabinet. During initial energization, a soft-start circuit restricts inrush current to 150 A, protecting upstream contactors and reducing nuisance trips. Internal capacitors reach operating voltage within 25 ms, so connected drives receive a ready DC bus shortly after utility power is applied. Under continuous operation, each phase can supply up to 75 A per phase, providing capacity for multi-axis installations with substantial current demand. Once the input is rectified and filtered, the supply provides a main bus voltage of 325 VDC, giving servo inverters a stable energy source for accurate torque regulation and controlled motor operation.
Average internal loading is monitored at 1.1 A RMS on the DC bus return, providing a useful value for evaluating thermal load and enclosure airflow. The unit has no internal shunt regeneration, so excess voltage must be managed without an integrated shunt resistor. The compatible external brake package is the ER-2X kit, which mounts beside the supply and dissipates surplus energy when regeneration to the utility line is unavailable or prohibited. Kollmorgen classifies the unit as a power supply with regeneration for BDS and ACS systems, indicating compatibility with the electrical interfaces and fault-handling functions used by those motion-control platforms.
