The PSR4/5A-212 is a regulated power module from Kollmorgen within the PSR Servo Power Supplies series. As a regenerative power supply for BDS and ACS drive systems, it converts factory mains power into a stabilized DC bus that feeds multiple servo amplifiers and dissipates excess braking energy through a resistor network. By consolidating rectification, logic power rails, and shunt control, the unit simplifies cabinet layouts in automated assembly lines, packaging machinery, and material-handling cells.
It accepts a main supply of 230 VAC from a three-phase line, while the control section requires only a single-phase feed to maintain logic isolation. Under continuous load, each phase can deliver 12 A per phase. Rectification and filtering generate a stable bus voltage of 310 VDC that downstream inverters modulate for the motor windings. With a maximum output of 3.6 kW, the module can support several mid-frame servo axes without exceeding its thermal limits. A fixed crowbar circuit monitors the bus voltage and begins dissipating energy whenever regenerative events raise the voltage above the safe threshold. This response helps prevent overvoltage trips during rapid motor deceleration or braking cycles.
Surplus kinetic energy that exceeds the internal dissipation capacity can be routed to an optional external resistor bank with a minimum resistance of 8.8 ohms. The factory-installed resistor has a resistance of 12.5 ohms and can safely absorb up to 40 W. An auxiliary rail powers the drive electronics and maintains suitable operating margins for sensors and gate-drive circuits, while a differential rail supplies positive and negative voltages for operational amplifiers. For feedback loops, the logic bus provides a symmetrical output of ±14.5 VDC, while a separate 6.5 V reference keeps encoder and interface logic isolated from electrical noise on the DC link. These low-voltage rails allow the module to support feedback and control circuitry without additional external regulators.
