Product Description:
The PSR3-230/50-01-002 is a DC bus supply module manufactured by Kollmorgen within the PSR Servo Power Supplies series. Designed for rack or cabinet installation, the module rectifies and filters an incoming three-phase mains source, providing stable energy storage for matched servo amplifiers. By separating the high-power section from individual drives, it simplifies wiring and reduces heat inside adjacent electronics in automated assembly lines.
The input is rated for 230 VAC service and connects directly to common plant distribution panels. Internally, the supply establishes a nominal DC bus of 325 V; this voltage provides the reference that servo inverters modulate to command motor torque. Protective circuitry turns off the converter if the bus rises above its 385 V ceiling. Automatic restart occurs once the level falls below the 365 V hysteresis threshold. The three output phases can each deliver up to 50 A per phase, supporting medium-frame motors that demand high acceleration without causing voltage sag on the shared link. Forced-air cooling is provided by an integral fan that channels airflow across the heat sinks and semiconductor bridges.
Energy storage inside the unit is handled by electrolytic capacitors with a total capacitance of 0.0044 F. This capacitance smooths regenerative surges and supplies peak current during rapid load changes. When braking energy exceeds the passive dissipation capacity, a chopper routes excess power into an onboard resistor bank that can absorb 300 W at 7.5 ohms, preventing overvoltage faults during high-inertia deceleration. The enclosure is only 4 inches wide, allowing multiple supplies or drives to be mounted side by side in control cabinets. Its narrow housing also leaves space for the required cooling ducts and field wiring while preserving appropriate installation clearances.
