Product Description:
The PSR3-208/50-01-002 servo power supply module is manufactured by Kollmorgen within the PSR Servo Power Supplies series. The unit is intended to operate ahead of Kollmorgen brushless drive amplifiers, converting three-phase plant power into a high-energy DC link that feeds multiple axes. By integrating rectification, energy storage, and protective monitoring in a 4-inch-wide chassis, it simplifies cabinet layouts for packaging lines, pick-and-place robots, and other automated equipment that requires tightly coordinated motion while reducing the number of installed components and the complexity of field wiring.
Incoming power is supplied through a three-phase line at 208 VAC. Each phase can deliver up to 50 amps per phase, which determines the thermal capacity and conductor size required for the feed circuit. A full-wave silicon rectifier converts the AC input to a DC bus maintained at 300 VDC. Downstream drives draw energy that is smoothed by two aluminum electrolytic capacitor banks rated at 2 x 2200 µF at 450 V. Fan-assisted airflow moves across the heat sink to remove losses generated by the rectifier and capacitor equivalent series resistance. When line power is removed, the stored charge decays along a first-order curve with a discharge time constant of 44 seconds. This delay must be considered before the enclosure is opened because hazardous voltage may remain after shutdown.
In addition to the main bus function, the supply provides a 110 VAC auxiliary outlet protected by a 5 A fuse for cabinet lights or control relays. A neon pilot indicator on the front panel shows when auxiliary and bus power are present. Excess kinetic energy returned from decelerating axes is routed through a dynamic brake circuit that uses a 7.5 Ω resistor and can absorb up to 300 W without overheating. During normal shutdown, a bleeder network rated at 10 kΩ and 10 W accelerates capacitor discharge to a safe level. Because the unit is unregulated, the DC output follows variations in the incoming supply rather than remaining constant. The auxiliary circuit supports low-power cabinet devices without drawing directly from the high-voltage DC bus.
